‘St Stephen’s Visitors’
This is a team of parishioners, led by our vicar, who visit individuals and groups, usually in their homes, to offer a caring face from St Stephen’s. The team has friendship at its heart and shares this philosophy with those they visit. For more information, please contact Rev. Stuart Currie or the group co-ordinator Sue Gething on 01905 774455.
‘Bereavement Care Group’
A small group of volunteers who visit the bereaved to offer comfort, practical assistance and, where possible help them come to terms with their sad loss. The group meets three or four times a year for prayer, training and mutual support and is led by Beryl Thorp, Church Warden.
‘Good Companions’
This social group for the ‘over 55s’ meets for a varied programme of activities in the Bishop Allenby Hall fortnightly, at 2.00 pm on Mondays. For more details please talk to Margaret Dow.
Julian Meeting
The Julian Meeting is affiliated to the international network of Julian Meetings originating in the shrine of Dame Julian of Norwich, the mystic who lived from around 1342 to 1416 and who was the first woman to write a book in English. The meetings alternate between church and the home of the Parkin family: please see the Calendar of Events for details of dates and venues.
House Group
Our House Group meets each week to discuss and reflect on an aspect of scripture, or study a short course on a topic of interest, including Advent and Lent courses - during Autumn 2011 we will be exploring ‘Jesus’ Life and Ministry’. The group is informal, supportive and friendly and meets on Tuesday evenings, from 7.30 until 9.00 pm, at 89 Park Avenue. New members are always welcome, and details of the next session are usually included in the Pewsheet. For further information, please contact Rev Stuart Currie.
Church Choir
The Choir contributes to worship by offering prayers through music and leading the singing during services. New members are welcome. Weekly rehearsals are held on Friday evenings, from 6.30 until 7.30 pm. Please talk to Organist Bill Poole for more details.
‘Events Group’
The Events Group was established to encourage participation in the work of the Church and to give a focal point for the various tasks undertaken. The Events Group co-ordinates and organises, with the Wardens and PCC, the Summer Fair and Advent Fair, publicity and social events.
‘The Messenger’
Our parish magazine is published monthly and delivered to every home in the parish. If you have a contribution please contact the editor, Roger Nall, on (01905) 26284.
Traidcraft
Our Traidcraft stall, located at the back of the Church, offers quality goods which have been purchased fairly from across the world. It is our opportunity to help farmers, growers and craftsmen in a practical.
‘Barbourne Ramblers’
A group of people who meet on the second Saturday of each month to walk in the countryside, at a fairly leisurely pace, including a visit to local hostelry. Everyone is welcome to take part - please talk to Adrian Everett for more information.
